Am 1. Januar nächsten Jahres wird der chinesische Yuan nach Gesprächen zwischen den beiden Regierungen während eines Staatsbesuchs des chinesischen Präsidenten eine offizielle Währung in Simbabwe.
Dadurch wird die chinesische Währung in Simbabwe dem US-Dollar, dem südafrikanischen Rand und dem Botswana-Pula gleichgestellt, wobei der Euro in dieser Gleichung keine Rolle spielt, vielleicht eine scharfe Erinnerung an die Negativität der Europäischen Union gegenüber Simbabwe.
China ist Simbabwes größter Handelspartner geworden, und die Investitionen nehmen nach dem Besuch von Präsident Xi JinPing im Land vor einiger Zeit zu.
